MR Essential Safety with Dr Donald McRobbie (Virtual) - AU/NZ

MR Essential Safety is a comprehensive course designed to deepen participants' understanding of magnetic resonance (MR) safety and follow appropriate and effective safety procedures in clinical practice. Developed and delivered by Dr Donald McRobbie, world-renowned MR physicist, educator and author of the Essentials of MRI Safety textbook, this course builds on core safety knowledge and focuses on current best practices, practical skills and real-world application, with specific tailoring for Australian and New Zealand based health care professionals working in an MR environment.

Through a combination of interactive lectures and scenario-based exercises, learning outcomes include an advanced understanding of MR safety principles and their application in clinical practice and improved ability to evaluate and manage risks associated with MR fields and implants.

Topics covered include:

• Fields and forces: basic physical interaction

• Bio-effects of magnetic fields

• SAR and B1+rms masterclass

• Pregnancy and contrast safety update

• Passive and active implant imaging considerations

• Other hazards in the MR environment: cryogens and acoustic noise

• MRI suite design and ACR zones

• Writing an MR safety policy

• The role of an MR Safety Expert (MRSE)

A formal multiple-choice assessment is also included for those seeking structured evaluation and reinforcement of learning outcomes.

This course is ideal for radiographers who are new to MR, as well as those who wish to refresh or expand their knowledge of MR safety. It is also highly suitable for other professionals working in an MR unit who wish to expand their current knowledge and competence around MR safety.

This training is approved for CPD Credits with the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy.
