Z Axis Alignment of the Endometrium Job Aid

This document describes the Z axis rotation method of the multiplanar rendering (MPR) used to align linear structures. This technique provides a localization technique for endometrial pathology, intrauterine devices (IUD), or the early gestational sac.

Z Axis Alignment of the Endometrium Job Aid Rotation of the multiplanar rendering (MPR) on the Z axis aligns linear structures providing a localization technique for endometrial pathology, intrauterine devices (IUD), or early gestational sac position. The following explains alignment using an endovaginal, 12 o’clock transducer orientation with the sagittal, anteverted uterus in the A plane. Acquisition (A) Plane Alignment Step 1 A B Select the A plane on the Touch Screen (outlined in orange on the image). C VR Step 2 Rotate the Color (Z) control aligning the endometrium horizonal. Align the endometrium on the long axis before obtaining the 3D data set. Centering the Area of Interest Step 1 Setup Press the Set key, located adjacent to the trackball, to select the Position function. Step 2 Align the endometrium on the horizontal plane on both the A and Position Size Curve B plane. The adjustable slice thickness box now has a dashed boundary. Step 2 Roll the trackball to adjust the height and width of the Position Size Curve VOI slice to include the fundus and lateral uterine borders. Step 3 Activate the A or B plane on the Touch ........ :: : : Screen. A white outline indicates the active plane, in this example, the B plane. Step 4 Press the Set key to activate Position, adjusting the slice thickness and width to include the entire endometrium. To increase structure differences (contrast resolution), increase the slice thickness. Adjusting the Curve - A and B Plane A B Use with a curved endometrium. - Step 1 C VR Select either the A or B plane from the Touch Screen. Step 2 Press the Set key to choose the Curve function. The adjustable plane displays as a dashed line with a triangular anchor point. Step 3 Roll the trackball front to back to adjust the curve and right to left for the volume cut plane. Step 4 Press the Set key to end the Curve function. Step 2 C VR Press the Set key, located adjacent to the trackball, to select the Position function. Step 3 Roll the trackball to move the rotation point to the anatomy or pathology of interest. Step 4 Rotate the Z axis to align the endometrium horizontally. The red arrow on the A and C plane indicate rotation on the Z axis when using the B plane. Volume Rendering (VR) Alignment Step 1 A B Select VR on the Touch Screen. Step 2 C VR Press the Set key, located adjacent to the trackball, to select the Position or Size function. Step 3 Roll the trackball to center the anatomy or pathology of interest. Rotating the VR on the Z axis turns the volume left and right.
