Before starting scanning, please check the following: SIEMEN Healthineer  Ask the owner to fill in the MR safety screening form.  Examine the veterinary patient to ensure no metal objects are inside its body. Please note: Depending on its position, the microchip can generate susceptibility artifacts in the images.  Place absorbent cotton in the patient's ears for noise protection. HEMENS Healthineers The general safety instructions provided in the safety online training material in PEPconnect need to be taken into account. 3 Effective Date: 06 Mai 2024| QR700007938 Unrestricted I Published by Siemens Healthineers AG | © Siemens Healthineers AG, 2024 Veterinary MRI Head examination – SIEMENS Healthineers Coil overview rx System Contour or Extremity or Knee Flex/Ultraflex coils coil Head/Neck coil for fitting all patients for improved workflow for big animals … … … 4 Effective Date: 06 Mai 2024| QR700007938 Unrestricted I Published by Siemens Healthineers AG | © Siemens Healthineers AG, 2024 Veterinary MRI Head examination – SIEMENS Healthineers Patient positioning for Contour or Flex/Ultraflex coils  Depending on the body configuration and size select the appropriate coil, for example Contour Small or Medium/ Flex Large or Small.  Position the veterinary patient in a ventral recumbency (prone) position on the table with the head in the coil.  Center the head in the coil and wrap the coil on the top and secure it with a loop belt. Please note: Alternative positioning can be tried, such as laying the coil over the head without wrapping it.  Stabilize and fix the position with positioning aids, sandbags and straps. For additional assistance, watch the veterinary positioning videos in PEPconnect. 5 Effective Date: 06 Mai 2024| QR700007938 Unrestricted I Published by Siemens Healthineers AG | © Siemens Healthineers AG, 2024 Veterinary MRI Head examination – SIEMENS Healthineers Patient positioning for Extremity or Knee coil  Position the veterinary patient in a ventral recumbency (prone) position on the table with the head in the coil.  Center the head in the coil and then close it.  Stabilize and fix the position with positioning aids, sandbags and straps. Users should be aware that the size and weight of the animal can impact many aspects (for e.g., SAR) for MR imaging. The use of MRI contrast agents has been implicated in the etiology of chronic renal disease in some human patients, and guidelines for their use have been issued by several resources. To date, this issue has not been well documented in veterinary medicine. The use of such contrast medial is still considered safe in animals, although they should be used with caution in patients with preexisting renal disease.
