The CT average tool performs a pixel based average calculation on merged slices that shows relevant anatomical structures. In other words, this tool allows you to merge 2 CT images from any scanner. Also noneman scanners, and it displays the average pixel intensity of both slices in one result series. The result image can be used, for example, to perform orthopedic measurements like femoral neck, anteversion angle or patellar translation as measured by the tibial tubercle to trochlear groove distance or TTG distance. Please note that the actual usage of the tool may differ slightly on different host systems. For example, in single via or single carbon space without changing the intended purpose of the tool. The tool functionality defined in this video is applicable to any of the Siemens healthineers products in which you find this tool. The CT average tool is located in the tool gallery. The interface allows you to select the series and the image that you would like to create. An average series for. In the Series 1 dropdown menu, select the desired series and insert the image number. Repeat the same for the Series 2 dialogue, keeping in mind that you can select the same or different series. Please note that you can also display the series in 2D image filter. In the layout select both image segments using the control key and activate the tool. This ensures that the series and image dialogues in the average tool are automatically filled. In the result name you can modify the automatically assigned name for the result image. Once you click OK, a new series is created and is available in the series panel. You can now use this new series to perform for example, angle or distance measurements. Let's look at a specific example. If you would like to measure the tibial tubercle to Tracleer groove distance or TTG distance, you can use this tool to create an average image of the slice location at the tibial, tubercle and the trochlear groove. First display the series for which you would like to create an average result series and scroll to the required slice location. In our example, we scroll to the level of the deepest point of the trochlear groove. Activate the average tool in the Series 1 dialog is automatically filled with the series from the selected segment. If the image filter of the displayed image is 2D as seen in our example, the slice location is also automatically transferred to the image field of the series one. If the image filter is for example MBR, you must insert the image number in the corresponding dialog. To quickly change from MBR to 2D image filters, you can use the keyboard shortcuts. Press the keyboard key one for 2D and three for MPR thick. Now to find the second slice location, scroll to the most prominent point of the tibial tuberosity. Select the series in the Series 2 drop down dialog. And insert the image number as seen in the image text. Adapt the result name if required and press OK. The new series is calculated and is available in the series panel. To display it, you can add it to the layout. In our example, we drag and drop using the right mouse button and we select add series AS2D from the menu. Once the result image is displayed in the layout, you can adapt the windowing to visualize the desired anatomical landmarks better and use any measurement tool to perform the required measurement. In our example, we use the distance line to measure the tibial tubercle to trochlear groove distance.
