Examination Overview Job Aid SOMATOM On.site ICU Step 1: Preparing the scanner SOMATOM On.site’s optimal parking place has • direct access to a power outlet/LAN line. Prepare the system as indicated by the Service and • Education teams of Siemens Healthineers and in the SOMATOM On.site’s Operator Manual. Unplug the system from the power outlet/LAN line. • Switch the system into Drive mode and proceed to • your first patient location. For driving, you may choose fast mode until reaching the patient’s room and switch to slow mode to enter the patient’s room. Step 2: Preparing the room Determine the best placement of the patient’s bed • and SOMATOM On.site (see also next page). Move excess furniture, equipment, cables, debris, • and so on, out of the way. Position the bed to allow enough room for the • scanner and telescopic gantry to extend outward. Maneuver SOMATOM On.site into position behind • the bed and align it with the patient’s head. Connect the CT system to a wall outlet with • protective earth to charge the battery, if possible. It is necessary to allow sufficient space clearance for • the telescopic gantry to extend (min. 10 cm). Note: Danger of collision! Scenario 2 - Turn bed 180 degrees: Rotate the patient bed 180 degrees. • SOMATOM On.site stays in the middle of the room. • Allow sufficient space clearance for the telescopic • gantry to extend (min. 10 cm). Scenario 3 - Turn bed 45 degrees: Turn the head of the patient bed slightly away from • the back wall. Allow sufficient space clearance for the telescopic • gantry to extend (min. 10 cm). Examination CH Drive Advanced UI • Select and load a scan protocol. Disconnect any restraints, catheters, leg circulation • devices, etc., if necessary, and lock the bed wheels to prevent unintentional movement. Lower the patient’s head/body flat (if elevated), inflate • the mattress, and remove the headboard from the bed. Tilt the shoulder board carefully down and place it on • the patient bed. Move the front cover and the gantry to the patient • load position. The front cover and the gantry are as far away as possible from the patient bed. Slide the patient up in the bed onto the shoulder • board and position the patient’s head in the head holder (immobilize the head if necessary). Assess any attached medical devices, tubing, etc. to • ensure clearance of the telescopic gantry movement. Step 4: Performing the scan Move the front cover and the gantry to the topogram • start position. Close the front Halo radiation shield and check that • the rear radiation shield is attached. Once the scan is ready to start, all staff except the CT • scanner operator should exit the room during the X-ray exposure. Perform the CT scan. • Once the CT scan is completed, check the real-time • SIEMENS images and verify that additional scans are not required. Start the image reconstruction and send the images • automatically or manually to the required destination. Check if the images are transferred to the required • destination. Step 5: Final steps Fold the front Halo radiation shield up or remove it. • SIEMENS Move the front cover and the gantry to the patient Healthingers • load/unload position. Carefully lift the patient back onto the patient bed. • Tilt the shoulder board up until it is vertical and • engages the angle handle on the support column. SOMATOM On.site Return the patient and room to the original • configuration and patient position. Move the front cover and the gantry into the drive • position, unplug SOMATOM On.site, and switch the scanner into Drive mode. Maneuver SOMATOM On.site from the patient’s room • and disinfect the scanner and the patient support accessories. Continue to the next patient or return SOMATOM • On.site to the parking place and plug it into a power outlet/LAN line.
