Patient data can be provided by a RIS worklist or a manual registration. Creating an emergency patient or querying with the barcode reader is also possible. To register a new patient, you can enter patient data manually if the data is not supplied by the HIS or RIS. Exercise: Manual Patient Registration 1. Unlock the screen by clicking on Unlock Screen. 2. Click on the Patient Browser icon. SIEMENS Healthineers 3. Make sure you have selected the Scheduler tab. 4. To register a new patient manually, select the Add Patient icon. Enter the following demographic data of the patient into the data fields that are marked with an asterisk. Apart from the mandatory fields, also put in the first name and gender. o Last Name: Doe o First Name: John o Gender: Male o Patient ID: DJ_12041995 o Date of Birth: December 4, 1995 (mm/dd/yyyy) 6. Select the Clinical Protocols tab. 7. Select the body region Spine in the illustration. 8. Scroll down the Available Clinical Protocols and select L-Spine 2 views. 9. Select the plus icon next to the L- Spine 2 views to assign this clinical protocol to the patient John Doe. 10. Select Exam to continue. In this scenario, after the registration, you have already entered the examination room and centered the X-ray tube to the patient table. The patient is positioned correctly in a supine position and proper collimation to the L- spine has been applied. Lead protection has been provided to the patient as well. SIEMENS Healthingers After instructing the patient to keep still, you now return to the control room to adjust the exposure parameters and release the radiation. However, you also have to follow the ALARA principle (As Low As Reasonably Achievable). Seek to reduce the radiation dose to only the amount necessary. 1. First of all, check that the Clinical Protocol Step L-Spine a.p. is selected. 2. Change the Patient Size from M to XL. 3. Make sure that the Acquisition Type is Table. 4. Check that the middle Measuring Field is selected. All preconditions for the examinations are now met. We are ready to expose. 5. Select the StartRad icon within the simulation. x StartRad | Start Ortho Shutdown 3_1_MERCURY_C168726_20220215.1 6. The simulated L-spine a.p. image is now displayed. You do not want to repeat the exposure, but switch to the L-spine lat. Select the Clinical Protocol Step L- spine lat. on the left side of your examination screen. After selecting the L-spine lat., you now go back into the examination room. Position the patient in the correct lateral position. Proper collimation has been applied and lead protection has been provided to the patient as well. 8. Repeat steps 2 to 4. 9. You are now finished with the examination workflow of the L-spine. Before switching to the Viewing tab to post-process your L-spine images, you head back to the examination room to help your patient off the table. For this scenario, we want to crop the image, and add a laterality label and an annotation. Layout The Viewing tab is divided into the Viewing Tools, the Static Tools, and the Series Navigator. The Viewing Tools are separated into four subcards: Favorite Tools, Image Manipulation, Measurement and Annotation, and Image Visualization. The layout of the Favorite Tools may vary between the SmartSimulator and your system configuration. Exercise: Image Manipulation The Image Manipulation card offers different tools to manage your image. You can rotate, change the contrast and brightness windowing, flip the image horizontally or vertically, and crop the image. We want to adjust the cropping. 1. Make sure that the L-spine a.p. image is selected in the bottom-right corner. 2. Select the Image Manipulation tab card. Click the Crop icon. 4. To crop the image, drag the blue frame to where you want it to be. Slightly change the left side of the collimation. 5. Confirm your changes by tapping the check mark icon on the bottom of the image. Exercise: Measurement and Annotation The Measurement and Annotation tab card offers tools to add laterality labels or annotations, and to perform different measurements. We want to add a laterality label and an annotation. 1. Select the Measurement and Annotation tab card. 2. Select the L Label icon. 3. Choose the desired location in the image and click in the image. You can reposition the laterality table with drag-and-drop. 4. Confirm your choice of location by selecting the check mark on the bottom of the image. 5. Select the annotations icon to continue. 6. Choose + Add free text. Next, you click the L-spine image where you want the text to appear. We want the text to appear below the label L. Click the desired image area. 8. A text field appears in the location that you have chosen. Please type in Supine. 9. Confirm your text with the check mark. 10. Select the L-spine lat. image in the bottom-right corner and repeat steps 2 to 9. Both images have been post-processed. You are now ready to send the image to the archive. 11. Select the Distribution tab card to see the export options. All acquired images for our patient John Doe are displayed. They can be selected or deselected for export by tapping the check boxes. Exercise: Distribution On the right sight of the screen, the distribution tools have opened. If necessary, you can select a different target for the export. Select Export to export the images immediately. Depending on your system configuration, an auto-routing of the images might be set up and this workflow might not be necessary. 1. Additionally to the L-spine a.p. and the L-spine lat. image, the dose report is displayed as in the overview as well. 2. Make sure that all check boxes are selected. 3. Click on the Export button on the right side within the Distribution Tools. 4. The export job has now been started and you can close the examination by clicking on Close on the bottom-left side in the distribution workflow.
