Re-threading the Cuvette Film on the Dimension® Family of Integrated Chemistry Systems
This video provides instructions on how to re-thread the cuvette film on the Dimension® Family of Integrated Chemistry Systems.
Follow this procedure when both sides of the film are no longer threaded properly and no film is threaded around the cuvet wheel. With the instrument in standby, raise the reagent lead. From the operating menu, select F7 Diagnostics, F1 Electromechanical F4 Cuvette, Then select F4 UCL solenoid twice. Next, raise the flex barcode reader to the left. Loosen the cuvette formation assembly alignment bar thumbscrew and lift the alignment bar up and out of the way. Pull the curved locking bar on the UCL solenoid assembly to the right and move the assembly to the left. Avoid touching the UCL solenoid since it is hot. Pull the cuvat formation assembly away from the cuvat wheel. Locate the top seal assembly. Disconnect the J2 black cable which is the top connector from the Control Board. This will remove the heat from the top seal element. The red and yellow indicator lights will turn off when the element temperature is cool. Next, open the cabinet door and remove the cuvat waste container. Unhook the latch of the capstan lever located directly above the cuvat waste container area and remove any film left around the cuvat wheel in this demonstration. Please note the capstan is black instead of silver. Pull approximately 4 feet of the right side film strip from the new film cartridge. This allows you to rethread completely around the cuvet wheel and helps keep the correct tension on the film while threading. Feed the right film strip from the bottom of the film guide into the right film guide until you see the end. Come out the left side of the self feeding guide at a 45 degree angle. Attach a 2 inch piece of tape to the end of the right film strip. Line up the film with the cuvet wheel. Press firmly on the tape to secure the right film strip to the wheel. Advance the cuvet wheel in a clockwise direction by grasping the wheel left of the capstand motor until you see the taped film appear to the left of the capstand. There is only about 1 inch of access left of the capstand motor. Once you see the film appear to the left of the capstan, stop moving the wheel and hold it stationary. Be careful not to move the cue. That will counter clockwise or you will loosen the tension. Keep tension on the film as you peel the tape strip from the wheel. Use a small screwdriver to help detach the tape if needed while pulling the film 10 inches towards yourself and not pulling it down. Wrap the film around the capstan and hook the latch of the capstan lever into place. The bottom of the film should be even with the capstan and not pulling down below the capstan. Insert the left film strip into the left film guide until you see it come out of the left side of the guide. The film should pass 3 qubit positions and advance past where the UCL will seal. Confirm that the position of the left film strip is far enough for EU seal to seal the left film to the right film. Then place all components back into place. Reconnect the J2 black cable to the top seal Control Board and confirm all three lights are on, indicating power has been restored to the top seal element on the Cubat diagnostic screen. Type 110 in the Cycle Count box and select Enter in order to advance both sides of the film completely off the cubat wheel. Type 110 into the cycle count, then select F1 Cycle. The instrument will make cuvets. Be sure to watch to confirm that the cuvets are advancing and no error messages occur. Close the cabinet door, then lower the reagent lid. If documenting using the paper logs from the Dimension System Operator's guide, document the maintenance in the weekly slash, monthly maintenance log sheet or instrument log sheet. Or if documenting using the electronic logs in the Dimension system software, document the maintenance in the instrument log screen.
