How to perform 3D acquisition (VExx)

This job aid will demonstrate how to perform an 3D Acquisition and description of 3D Acquisition protocols on VExx application software.

3D Acquisition (VEXX) job aid Angiography – ARTIS software VEXX An additional job aid is available on PEPconnect to determine the software version of the system. Special 3D acquisition modes are available on ARTIS systems, intended to create 3D images for various applications (vessels and bones). The images will be acquired in equidistant angular spac- ing. Rotation is carried out with predetermined (calibrated) rotational ranges with predefined start and end positions. • If the patient is prone on the table, you must register the patient, HFP or FFP. This will en- sure your imaging is anatomically correct during reconstruction. You may flip your image vertically or horizontally for interventional vs. anatomical viewing. • Collimation may be applied if the collimators do not approach the area of interest too closely. • Zoom sizes vary depending on license availability. • When working with a biplane system, you may sometimes select a protocol that utilizes Twin Spin*. Performing an automatic 3D Acquisition 1. Prepare the patient, stand, C-arm, and table. 2. Prepare the injector, if used. 3. Select the appropriate 3D acquisition protocol via Pilot or exam room. Follow the instructions in the message bar to position the region of interest in the Isocenter: a) “3D: Deflect joystick to move to ISO AP position.” – Once you believe you are isocen- ter, tap on fluoro to confirm, then deflect the joystick. b) “3D: Deflect joystick to move to ISO lateral position.” Position your isocenter by lift- ing and lowering the patient table only. If necessary, check the exact height with fluoro. 6. Deflect the joystick to move the C-arm to the start position. G G 7. Deflect Joystick to perform the 3D test run to ensure that no collision will occur. a) “3D test phase: Deflect joystick to start collision check…” G G b) Once C-arm stops moving, the message will read: “3D test phase: Start fluoro to complete test phase.” 8. Perform a brief fluoroscopy for the automatic setting of acquisition parameters — approx. 2 sec. a) The message: “3D test phase: Completed. Stop fluoro” is displayed. b) The message: “3D: Release acquisition for […], s.” c) If an injector is used, an X-ray delay may be needed depending on which spin is se- lected or what anatomy is to be viewed. d) Instruct the patient: “Do not move.” “Hold your breath.”, etc. 9. Start acquisition: Press the exposure release button or pedal and keep it pressed. 10. Release the exposure release when all rotational runs are complete. a) Return the system to the last working position by deflecting the joystick after comple- tion. 11. The 2D projection images are reconstructed to a 3D volume and visualized in the 3D Sharing segment. 3D Sharing a Images Live Ref1 Ref 2 Viewer1 Viewer2 3D Sharing Unrestricted 0 Published by Siemens Healthineers AG © Siemens Healthineers, 2025 SIEMENS Master Template Effective Date: 3/5/2020 | HOOD05162003074494 Job Aid Effective Date: 01/15/2025 | QR700017513 Healthineers Page 2 of 4 3D acquisition protocols* Acquisition Mode Description DR Images are acquired in a single run for native re- constructions.
