FAST and eFAST Quick Reference Guide

This quick reference illustrates imaging zones used for the rapid Focused Abdominal Sonography in Trauma (FAST) and the extended FAST (eFAST).

FAST and eFAST Quick Reference Card siemens-healthineers.com/ultrasound Focused Abdominal Sonography in Trauma (FAST) Right Upper Quadrant • Place transducer on the right flank. • Angle from anterior to posterior to observe the liver and kidney interface. • Sliding the transducer superior will demonstrate lung and pleura. • Oblique positioning may aid in eliminating rib shadows. Left Upper Quadrant Abcome! • Place the transducer on the left flank at the posterior axillary. • Angle from anterior to posterior to view kidney splenic interface. • Oblique positioning may help eliminate rib shadows. Suprapubic Abdomen • Place the transducer above the pubic bone and angle inferior to view the bladder. • Survey the bladder in transverse and long axis to view the peritoneal cavity around the urinary bladder. Subxiphoid • Place the transducer midline epigastric under the ribs at the subxiphoid, flat against the abdomen. • With hand on top of the transducer, apply pressure and angle superiorly to visualize the heart and pericardial sac.
