This video will introduce you to the steps on how to perform external quality control on the Epoch blood analysis system with NXS host. To start, ensure you have the most current EVAD sheets downloaded and printed. Also upload the file to the epoch host. Also ensure you remove the QC ampule from the refrigerator. And allow it. One hour to equilibrate before using. In the main menu, select QA. Next, select the QA Testing Item button on the home screen. Select Run QA Test. Insert a test card into the reader when prompted. Ensure the. Correct lot number of the ampule is entered into the system. This can be done by scanning the bar code on the ampule, scanning the bar code listed on the printed EVAD sheet, or manually entering it into the system using the host keyboard. Hold the ampule between the thumb and index finger. Shake the ampule vigorously for 15 seconds to re equilibrate the gases with the solution. Ensure this is done right before running the test. Swirl the ampule gently in order to return the solution to the bottom of the ampule. Allow bubbles to rise before opening the ampule. Hold the ampule with the colored dot facing up. Snap off the neck of the ampule in the opposite direction of the colored dot. Transfer over 1 milliliter of fluid from the bottom of the ampule into a plain syringe within 30 seconds of opening the ampule by aspirating it through a large bore needle or a blunt tip. Ensure the syringe is kept in a vertical position to ensure any air bubbles trapped do not move through the fluid. Moving air bubbles contaminate the fluid. Next, remove the needle from the syringe and expel a few drops of the fluid onto a paper towel or tissue. Fit the syringe lure into the test card sample introduction port as you would for a whole blood test. Depress the plunger with a single smooth continuous motion until the system prompts you to stop. Once the test is complete, if an EVAD has been uploaded, the epoch will automatically tell you if the test has passed or failed. If the EVAD has not been uploaded, you will have to manually compare the results to the printed EVAD sheet. If results are outside of the specified ranges, refer to the troubleshooting and error messages located in the Epoch System Manual. When testing is complete, remove the. Test. Card and dispose per.
