In this video, you will learn about the general functions and features of the Eco Power mode for magnetom systems with dry cool technology. Eco Power mode is a technology that saves energy by optimizing the magnet cooling performance when the system is not in active use. In Mr. imaging, it's important to keep the superconducting magnet of the scanner at specific low temperature to avoid overheating. Normal scanners consume a lot of energy to maintain the cold head, which keeps the magnet at the right temperature whether the system is in operation or not. In this process, conventional Mr. systems use up to 1500 liters of liquid helium as cooling agent. In contrast, systems with dry cool technology are cooled with only 0.7 liters of liquid helium via a separate helium pot. During scanning, the magnet heats up and additional energy must be removed via the cold head to cool down the helium inside the magnet without consumption. The dry cool magnet technology is also called sealed for life, which means that no helium needs to be refilled during the lifetime of the magnet. Other Mr. components are available to support the cooling chain, for example the helium compressor in the technical room. Here the heated helium is additionally cooled and supplied back to the cold head. This cooling process goes on non-stop 24/7 even when the Mr. scanner is not in active operation. Eco Power mode is a standard feature in Mr. scanners from Siemens Health and Ears and a software based technology. When the AMR system is not in active use, such as during standby mode or when it is shut off, Eco Power mode optimizes the cooling performance of the AMR system, which saves energy and costs. This is particularly beneficial during longer break times like nights or weekends. When Eco Power is on, the helium is not cooled continuously within a cycle. The cold head and the helium compressor switch on and off following certain rules. When the cold head is off, the typical noise of the cold head also stops. The temporary switch off of the cold head enables a reduction of energy consumption. When you interact with the scanner again, Eco Power mode is switched off and the system is ready to scan.
