Welcome Welcome to the System Overview course for the Dimension® RxL Max® Integrated Chemistry System. This course consists of two sections: system hardware, and system software. and will cover the following three learning objectives. For navigation help, select the question mark button located in the lower right corner of each slide. dimension_rxlmax_so_olt_1.1.mp3 System Hardware The Dimension® RxL Max® Integrated Chemistry System is a discrete, microprocessor-controlled, analyzer that measures a variety of analytes. In this section, you will learn about the technologies and associated components, as well as functional areas within the analyzer. ? System Hardware In the system hardware section, you will learn about key components such as the sample area, reagent area, and cuvette area. The Dimension® RxL Max® Integrated Chemistry System also includes the Integrated Multisensor Technology (IMT) system and the Heterogeneous Immunoassay (HM) Module. Please refer to the online training and videos that specifically address these technologies for more information. dimension_rxlmax_so_olt_1.2.mp3 Sample Area The Sample Area is the location for loading and processing samples in the Dimension® System. Select the tab arrows to learn more about the components of the Sample Area. Sample Containers Sample Segments Barcode Readers Sample Probe ? Sample Area Sample Area Layer: All test processing begins in the Sample area where the Photometric Sample Probe delivers patient or Quality Control samples from sample containers into cuvettes and HM reaction vessels. For HM tests, the photometric sample probe also transfers bound sample reactants from Heterogeneous Immunoassay Module, or HM reaction vessels into cuvettes. Use only these sample containers when processing samples: Unstoppered 5-mL, 7-mL, and 10-mL primary sample tubes, whether barcoded or non-barcoded, Dimension® Sample Cups with lids and Dimension® Small Sample Containers. dimension_rxlmax_so_olt_1.3a.mp3 Sample Segments Layer: Load sample containers into segments, and if necessary, into an adapter. Segments fit inside the sample wheel and hold all the samples to be processed on the analyzer. The sample wheel holds up to six segments. Each segment holds up to ten samples. dimension_rxlmax_so_olt_1.3b.mp3 Barcode Readers Layer: The Dimension® System sample area contains both an inner and an outer barcode reader that reads patient data on barcode labels. All barcode labels must be visible through segment openings when barcoded tubes are loading into segments. dimension_rxlmax_so_olt_1.3c.mp3 Sample Probe Layer: The Dimension® System uses a photometric sample probe to aspirate patient, QC and calibration samples from sample containers and delivers them to cuvettes and reaction vessels. Then select the X in the upper-right corner to continue. Sample Tubes Sample Cups SSCs Reagent Area The Reagent Area stores an inventory of reagents and delivers them when and where they are needed. The Dimension® System reagent area contains two reagent arms (R1 and R2). Each reagent arm has a probe (R1 and R2). Hover over the markers on the image to identify the Reagent Area components. R1 Arm R2 Arm Flex® Reagent Cartridge Loader Flex® Reagent Cartridges ? Reagent Area Reagent Area Layer: The Reagent Area stores an inventory of reagents and delivers them when and where they are needed. In the reagent area, Flex® reagent cartridges are loaded into the automatic cartridge loader. The system reads the barcode on the cartridge and moves the cartridge into the reagent tray. Key components of the Reagent Delivery System are the automatic Flex® reagent cartridge loader, the R1 arm, and the R2 arm. Flex® reagent cartridges can be loaded and unloaded through the automatic loader and are stored in the reagent tray. R1 and R2 reagent probes aspirate and deliver reagents and R2 also hydrates reagent cartridges. If a Reagent Management System is attached to the analyzer, an additional probe, R3 would be located in the Reagent Management System. Flex® reagent cartridges arrive ready to use in either tablet or liquid form Instrument hydrations occur automatically as needed Sample processing proceeds while the system loads and unloads Flex® reagent cartridges Flex® reagent cartridges are stable for 6-12 months from the date of manufacture or a minimum of 30 days unopened onboard the analyzer Test method, lot number and number of tests performed per cartridge are identified via barcodes on each Flex® reagent cartridge Cartridge Loader The automatic Flex® reagent cartridge loader loads Flex® reagent cartridges onto the reagent tray after the barcode label has been read by the barcode reader. The reagent tray can hold up to 44 Flex® reagent cartridges. Reagent 2 (R2) Arm The R2 arm is a rotating arm, moving in and out, up and down, and swinging left and right. The R2 arm: Moves from the R2 drain to the Flex® reagent cartridge where the R2 probe aspirates reagents Delivers reagents for HM and Photometric tests into a cuvette or HM reaction vessel Moves back to the R2 drain for rinsing Reagent 1 (R1) Arm A stationary arm, moving in and out and up and down: Moves from the R1 drain to the Flex® reagent cartridge, where the R1 probe aspirates the reagent and delivers it into a cuvette Moves back to the R1 drain for rinsing Reagent probes are rinsed constantly to prevent crossover contamination, to ensure precision and accuracy. Cuvette Area Chemical reactions occur in cuvettes that are manufactured onboard the Dimension® RxL Max® Integrated Chemistry System. Cuvette Area The Dimension® RxL Max® Integrated Chemistry System manufactures disposable cuvettes, which are used for the chemical reactions that are read photometrically. dimension_rxlmax_so_olt_1.5.mp3 Cuvette Film Cartridge 3 The cuvette film cartridge supplies the film used to manufacture cuvettes. One film cartridge can manufacture 12,000 cuvettes. Select the X in the upper-right corner to continue. Cuvette Waste Container 2 Cuvette Manufacturing Area Cuvette film is pulled up from the cuvette film cartridge and formed into disposable cuvettes in the cuvette manufacturing area. Select the numbered steps below to learn more about cuvette area components. 1 IMT System The QuikLYTE® Integrated Multisensor Technology (IMT) system uses an indirect method to measure the electrolytes sodium (Na), potassium (K), and chloride (Cl) in a sample. QuikLYTE® Integrated Multisensor Measures Na, K, and Cl IMT Peristaltic Pump Pulls air and fluids through the IMT system IMT Rotary Valve Rotates at specific intervals to alternate the flow of air and fluids into the IMT system ? IMT System The electrolytes sodium, potassium and chloride are measured indirectly by the Integrated Multisensor Technology (IMT), by pre-diluting samples before analysis. This requires a smaller sample volume to perform the measurement. Vessel Holder/Vessel Feeder Track Automatically loads reaction vessels into the incubate wheel Incubate Wheel Holds samples that are mixed and incubated with antibody-coated reagents Wash Wheel Holds samples for separation and washing Wash Station Probes Aspirates unbound sample and reactants and dispense chemistry wash into the reaction vessel ? Heterogeneous Immunoassay Module (HM) The HM Module processes chromium-based immunoassays for the measurement of specialty analytes of low molecular weight, such as Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, HCG. The immunoassay is prepared in the HM area, where it is washed, mixed, and incubated. The photometric sample probe delivers the immunoassay reactants into cuvettes, where the test results are read photometrically. The operator selects the alert keys to respond to situations requiring attention. Help screens and menus for maintenance and loading samples can also be displayed using the touchscreen. Keyboard The keyboard is similar to a standard computer keyboard and includes special keys that enable the operator to: Order tests using test and panel keys Access help screens and menus Pause, reset, or stop the analyzer Select the X in the upper-right corner to continue. Pump Panel The pumps located in the Pump Panel include the sample, reagent, and HM Wash pumps. These pumps have syringes with volume capacities of: 100 µL metering syringe aspirates and delivers sample to cuvettes, and/or HM reaction vessels 500 µL metering syringes aspirate and deliver reagents to cuvettes and/or HM reaction vessels 2500 µL flush syringes rinse sampler, R1, and R2 probe tips with water, while using chemistry wash for HM probes, all to prevent carryover Select the X in the upper-right corner to continue. Using the Keyboard There are several keys which are unique to the keyboard, including the Test, Panel, Action, Function, and Help function. In this section, you will learn how to use the keyboard and keyboard functions to manage the Dimension® RxL Max® System software dimension_rxlmax_so_olt_1.14.mp3 Help Key and Help Key Combinations For Help using the current screen, press the Help key For the Quick Index, go to the Operating Menu, and then press the Help key For Help entering data fields, press Shift+Help For Help identifying keystroke combinations, press Alt+Help For Help identifying icons, press Control+Help Function Keys The Function keys F1 through F8 initiate specific tasks. For example, when using the Enter Sample Data screen, the F1 function key will be used to enter a New Sample, F3 will display the Load list and F8 will select the different fluid type. Action Keys Action keys initiate instrument commands. Control+Stop: Aborts all tests in progress. Scheduled tests are retained in instrument memory Stops all instrument operations Pause: Prevents the photometric sample arm from moving Reset: Clears error messages and initializes system modules Resumes operations after pressing Control+Stop Run: Instructs the instrument to locate and process any new samples Panel Keys Panel keys are labeled P1 through P10. You can program up to 20 tests per panel key. Test Keys On the system keyboard press Test keys to order tests. Test keys for individual tests are labeled with an abbreviation of the test name. The key test along with test key combinations can be used to order additional tests. Using Keystroke Combinations A combination of keystrokes directs the analyzer to perform various functions. Hover over the colored callouts on the left to learn more about each keystroke combination. ? Using Keystroke Combinations In this section, you will learn about the combination of keystrokes that directs the analyzer to perform various functions. dimension_rxlmax_so_olt_1.15.mp3 Alt+O This keystroke combination allows you to advance the paper feed on the system printer. Shift+Right Arrow When entering information in a field, hold down the Shift key, and select the Right Arrow key to move the cursor one space to the right. This does not delete any information in the field. Shift+Left Arrow When entering information in a field, hold down the Shift key, and select the Left Arrow key to move the cursor one space to the left. This does not delete any information in the field. Alt+M This keystroke combination allows you to view troubleshooting information for an error message in the Error Message area. Alt+N This keystroke combination displays the System Needs screen. Alt+L This keystroke combination displays the Load List - Short Samples screen. Alt+S This keystroke combination displays the Segment Status screen, which shows the status of segment positions currently on the analyzer. Backslash The Backslash key allows you to delete the entire entry in a data field. Alt+P This keystroke combination allows you to print the entire screen as it appears on the display. Alt+I This keystroke combination displays the Reagent Cartridge Inventory screen. Alt+R This keystroke combination allows you to determine why the Reagent Manager icon appears in the Operating Conditions Status area. Shift+Delete This keystroke combination allows you to delete all characters to the right of the cursor in a field. Alt+Help This keystroke combination allows you to view a list of Alt key combinations and their functions. Shift+Exit This keystroke combination allows you to return to the Operating Menu. Control+Stop This keystroke combination will stop all operations in progress in a manner that will not damage the analyzer. All tests in progress will be aborted. However, all scheduled tests will be retained in the analyzer. Touchscreen The touchscreen is the communication link between the operator and the analyzer. Each software screen has areas displaying specific information. Main Areas: Instrument Status Segment Status Operating Conditions Error Message Applications Messages Select the colored callouts on the left to learn more about the main areas on the touchscreen. ? Touchscreen Areas Base Layer: In this section, you will learn about the overall areas of the touchscreen where specific types of information appears. There are 6 major areas on the touchscreen. These areas are standard on the various screens that manage the system. Select the colored callouts on the left to learn more about each area on the touchscreen. dimension_rxlmax_so_olt_1.16.mp3 The Message area displays system information, including: Prompts to indicate the system needs additional information and is waiting for response Questions to indicate the system needs additional information before it can proceed due to an incomplete command The system may also inform you of its current task Select the X in the upper right corner to continue. Messages Area The Applications area displays the software screens used to control the tasks that the system is to perform. For example, the Enter Sample Data screen is used to enter patient sample information and test orders. Select the X in the upper right corner to continue. Applications Area The Error Message area displays messages indicating that a system malfunction needs to be resolved. Select Alt+M for troubleshooting steps to resolve the error. Select Reset to clear the error message and resume system processing. Select the X in the upper right corner to continue. Error Message Area Icons displayed in the Operating Conditions Status Area alert you to the status and operating conditions of instrument components such as heating and cooling systems, short samples, or system needs. You will learn more about the various icons later in the Operating Conditions Status Area Icons section in this online training. Select the X in the upper right corner to continue. Operating Conditions Area The sample wheel holds up to six segments. The Segment Status Area indicates the status of the six segment positions during the last instrument scan. Select the marker on the image to learn about the Segment Status Area. Then select the X in the upper right corner to continue. Segment Status Area Segment Box Segment boxes with letters indicate that the analyzer has scanned the sample wheel and identified that lettered segment in that segment position. Green background color: indicates that all work has been completed and no work is required for this segment. It can be removed and replaced with another segment. Red background color: analyzer is processing work on this segment. Failure to follow these items will affect reported results and may damage the analyzer. Do not remove the segment or reposition it to another segment location on the sample wheel Do not remove any sample container in this segment or reposition it onto another position in the segment. Do not remove sample fluid from any sample container in this segment Segment boxes with dashes in them indicate that the analyzer has scanned the sample wheel and did not identify a lettered segment in that segment position The Instrument Status area indicates the status of the main instrument and specific instrument components: Processing Status-indicates analyzer status and displays instrument modes Photometric Sampler Status-indicates the status of the photometric sampler arm. View this area to determine if it is safe to add or remove samples in the area IMT System Status-indicates the status of the IMT system or its components Select the markers on the image to learn about each instrument status. Then select the X in the upper right corner to continue. Instrument Status Area Processing Status Standby-system is ready for processing Initializing-system is starting up. You cannot process samples or access the sample wheel until the system has finished initializing Processing-system is either processing samples, the IMT system is being calibrated or photometric calibrations or reagent hydrations are being performed System Prep-instrument is in system preparation mode Can’t Process-system is unable to process samples Diagnostics-diagnostic software is being used. You cannot process samples. The instrument must be in “Standby” to access the Diagnostic software Photometric Sampler Status Sampler Idle-you may remove or add samples Sampler Busy-system is using one or both of the sample handlers or the sample wheel Waiting-the Pause key was pressed while samples were processing. The system is waiting for an appropriate place and time to stop the photometric and IMT sampler systems Waiting…60-instrument is 60 seconds from pausing. This will count down the number of seconds until the analyzer is paused (”Waiting 59”…, “Waiting 58,” etc.) Samplers Off-appears when the Pause key has been pressed. The system has stopped the photometric and IMT sampler systems. These systems will not move until the Pause key is pressed again Moving Wheel-analyzer is within five seconds of accessing samples in the sample area. You must not add samples to the sample area. A red light on the instrument frame in front of the sample area also lights when this status appears IMT System Status IMT OK-IMT system is turned on and is calibrated. You can process IMT tests IMT Paused-all activity in the IMT system has been paused. The IMT system will not move, prime or calibrate unless the operator exits the screen or presses a function key on the screen IMT Calibrating-IMT system is running a calibration. IMT tests can be scheduled and will be run when this changes to “IMT OK” Na, K, CL-one or more of the individual sensors failed calibration. The color indicates the status of each: Green-calibrated Yellow-operator has overridden the IMT Method Red-not calibrated IMT Not Calib-IMT system is not calibrated and no IMT tests can be processed until it is calibrated IMT Not Config-IMT system has not been configured. You cannot process IMT tests ? Operating Conditions Status Area Icons When an icon appears in the Operating Conditions Status Area, select the Control/Help key combination and then use the right arrow key to move the indicator to the icon. Hover over the colored callouts on the left to learn more about the Operating Conditions Status Area Icons. Operating Conditions Status Area Icons The Operating Conditions Status Area Icons indicate the operating conditions status of various systems and consumables on the analyzer. These icons will only appear when their systems or consumables are not within normal operating levels or require replacement shortly. When these icons appear, select the Control/Help key combination to determine the meaning of the icon. Select the colored callouts on the left to learn more about the Operating Conditions Status Area Icons. dimension_rxlmax_so_olt_1.17.mp3 Alarm Sounding OFF Icon The alarm has been turned off by the operator. If an error condition occurs, the alarm will not sound; however, a message indicating the reason for the alarm will appear in the error message area. Alarm Sounding ON Icon The alarm is sounding. A message will appear in the error message area indicating the reason for the alarm. Check Needs Icon If the red Check Needs icon appears, the system has found needs that require operator attention before samples can be processed. Select Alt+N to access the System Needs screen and determine the required needs. See “Responding to System Needs” in Module 2: Using in the Operator’s Guide. Needs Check Icon The yellow Needs Check icon appears when the system is checking itself for any needs to process the Load List. Short Sample Icon One or more sample containers in the current Load List does not have enough sample volume to run all its requested tests. Select Alt+L to view a list of these short samples. See “Resolving a Short Sample Detected” procedure in Module 2: Using in the Operator’s Guide. Printer Icon This icon appears with one of four possible words: OFF–the printer power switch is off OUT–the printer is out of paper LINE–the printer is off-line. Press the Select button on the printer to put the printer back on-line ERR–there is a communication problem between the PC and the printer Reagent Manager Icon The system has a problem with adding, removing (or, if the RMS is in use, transferring) reagent cartridges, or a reagent cartridge has been added to the reagent tray which would force calibration of a third lot. Press the Alt+R key combination to see why this icon is blinking and to remove the icon from the screen. Additional Reagent Manager icon information: A number appearing with the icon indicates the total number of empty slots remaining in the Dimension® System reagent tray (and, if in use, in the RMS reagent tray). If the word “FULL” appears in black with the icon, the reagent tray (and, if in use, in the RMS reagent tray) is full. If it appears in red, the instrument has a system need for a new reagent cartridge to process tests but there is no room on the reagent tray; you must remove a reagent cartridge before one can be inserted. Cuvette Film Cartridge Icon This is the number of cuvettes remaining in the cuvette film cartridge. Replacement of the cuvette film cartridge will be required shortly. Aliquot Wheel Icon This is the number of aliquot wheel positions remaining. The aliquot wheel will need to be replaced shortly. HM Vessel Feeder Empty Icon The HM reaction vessel sensor located near the top of the reaction vessel feeder chute is not detecting a reaction vessel. Add reaction vessels to the reaction vessel holder or check for a reaction vessel jam in the vessel transfer system. UPS Icon-Uninterruptible Power Source Icon A red “ON” inside this icon indicates that power to the instrument has just been interrupted and the UPS is in use. An intermittent alarm will also sound. This will change to the word “LOW” when the instrument is preparing to shut down before the UPS loses all power. The UPS will be recharged whenever normal electric power is restored. If “LOW” appears continuously while the instrument is connected to its wall outlet, call the Remote Services Center. HM Cold Icon The HM heating system temperature is below the acceptable range for processing. The HM will stop processing and no results for the current test will be calculated. When the RMS is installed on the Dimension® System, the lettering in the box indicates the specific area that is above specified limits: RFG = the Dimension® System and RMS reagent trays RFG1 = only the Dimension® System reagent tray RFG2 = only the RMS reagent tray HYD = only the RMS hydration station RMS = both the RMS reagent tray and hydration station Service Key Icon The Service key switch is in the Interlock Override position. The sample and IMT arms will continue to move even if the sample lid is raised. Identify Dimension® System technologies, components and functions System Technologies The Dimension® RxL Max® Integrated Chemistry System acts as a single workstation made up of the Integrated Multisensor Technology (IMT) system, Heterogeneous Immunoassay Module (HM), as well as photometric methods. Key Components Key Dimension® System components include the IMT module and HM module. Key areas include the sample area, cuvette area, and the reagent area. Other important components include the sample and reagent probes, syringe pumps, system control boards, fuse boards, computer, power switch, and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
