Diffusion weighted images are sensitive to MAGN COMP phase variations among averages, such as subject motion or even possible system interferences during the diffusion preparation. Magnitude (MAGN) averaging has been R R 2D 2D conventionally used, due to lower sensitivity to SL SPC 6.0 SL SPC phase variations. 10 cm 10cm Compared with the magnitude (MAGN) averaging, the Complex (COMP) averaging can enhance the Signal-to-Noise ratio (SNR) in areas with low local SNR and improve the image appearance. 3 Effective Date: 14 Jan 2024 | QR700004347 Unrestricted © Siemens Healthineers, 2024 Complex Averaging How does it work? Complex Averaging works in two steps: 1. Global phase correction between averages Uses a method DWI RESOLVE-like* to estimate and correct the phase • • Removes the low-order phase variations across averages 2. Adaptive combination of complex-valued images • Alignment of local phase variations between images Please note: • Complex Averaging is only compatible with non-DTI diffusion modes and with Adaptive Coil Combine. • When using Complex Averaging, it is normal to have an Apparent Diffusion Coefficient (ADC) increase, due to noise bias removal. * = DWI RESOLVE is a readout-segmented, multi-shot EPI for reduced TE and encoding time. RESOLVE uses motion correction with 2D phase navigator and real-time image reacquisition. 4 Effective Date: 14 Jan 2024 | QR700004347 Unrestricted © Siemens Healthineers, 2024 Complex Averaging How can you use it?
